Outdoor campaigns are a great idea for promoting and marking an investment. Properly planned, they can attract the attention of a potential buyer and remain in his or her memory for a long time. When designing large-format outdoor advertising, however, you should remember that the devil is in the details.

Learn about the solutions and effects of a poorly thought-out outdoor campaign. Check what mistakes to avoid and what to pay special attention to.

1. Banner vs. nature – how to win the fight for good advertising?

Banner advertising is a popular way to reach a wide audience. Depending on the format, planned exposure time and advertising location, you should choose the appropriate type of banner that will best fulfill its function.

One of the most frequently chosen places for promotion are fences and fences. In this case, it is especially necessary pay attention to the material the banner is made of. Difficult weather conditions, including strong winds, may pose an obstacle. Traditional banner versions, such as laminated or coated, will not be the best choice. Lack of air permeability and catching wind may result in the banner being damaged, torn off, or even damaged knocking down the fence, which generates additional costs and problems.

The solution to the situation is a banner made of mesh nets, whose fibers are arranged loosely enough to allow light and air to pass through. This structure makes a grid banner possible can be hung without any problems in places exposed to wind and allows advertising to be hung on windows and other glazing.

2. Check if you have the right to place your ad

It is worth verifying whether there is no landscape resolution in force in a given city. Such regulations are created on an ongoing basis, so it is worth checking the current regulations. The purpose of the resolution is to protect the landscape, which in practice means restrictions on placing advertisements.

Worth knowing:

If you don’t know how to verify your ad’s compliance with applicable regulations, you can contact an advertising agency, printing house or appropriate office (e.g. the Roads and Greenery Authority, which provides free advice after a free project assessment).

3. The flag wrapping around the flagpole…

Bad vision, right? Advertising that depends on the weather is not a good idea. But we have a solution for this:

Flag in a vertical position

Placed on a flagpole, it is clearly visible from long distances, it is eye-catching and you can rely on it. Vertical position guarantees that it flutters even in a light wind. You can go a step further and opt for a swivel arm that holds the flag even on windless days.

Beachflags

Most often used during fairs, exhibitions or at entrances, e.g. to offices. The lightweight design allows for quick assembly and hassle-free storage. The construction of Beachflags ensures that the flag is unfurled at all times regardless of weather conditions.

There are no clearly defined restrictions in the Construction Law regarding the erection of flagpoles. The regulations refer to antenna masts. However, prudent is always insured and before you start building a flagpole, consult the District Office, which will dispel any doubts regarding regulations

4. First-hand tips, i.e. designing outdoor advertising from the perspective of a graphic designer

Are you planning to cooperate with a graphic designer? Don’t forget about the brief, i.e. a document containing the most important assumptions of your advertising campaign – it will help you avoid an endless number of corrections and shorten the implementation time.

Necessary information that MUST be included in the brief is:

This allows the graphic designer to properly think about the size and layout of the content so that it is as the most readable and attractive to the recipient, i.e. your potential customer.

It is worth taking a photo and sending it to the guidelines, because if there are other banner spots next to the banner, the designer can propose a version that will stand out more and thus attract the audience’s attention faster. It is also important to use the logo or brandbook, which sets out specific rules regarding, among others: colors, logo arrangement and other individual elements for a given brand.

Remember that You only have a moment to focus the recipient’s attention. The advertisement, within a few seconds, must convey the company’s goal, what it does and where to get more information. Using colors wisely and including only the most important and important information – these are the rules that many people forget.

5. The project is ready, what's next?

Before submitting your project to the printing house, please read the guidelines regarding preparation for printing. Requirements such as dyeing, color profiles or bleeds, should be included in the printing specification. These are industry terms and it may happen that you feel the need for support and professional knowledge – then it is best to consult the topic with a graphic designer.
